honda insight 2010 paddle shifters PLEASE HELP ASAP?

im going to be buying a 2010 honda insight EX but every time i took the test drive i drove the LX now my question is about the paddle shifters. In the Ex do you have to use the paddle shifters in the S mode iv only driven a tractor that was manual and wouldn't mind playing with the paddle shifters but i dont want to have to use them every time that im in S mode so i guess my question is when im in S mode is it necessary to use the paddle shifters
