I just bought a 95 Honda del sol a couple of days ago, and every once in a while, it'll do this really weird thing where I will floor the gas, and I wont accelerate like it should. At one point I was in fifth gear flooring it on the freeway for minutes, and I only got it up to 45 mph.

It's very unpredictable and will go from working very very well to doing this weird thing. I was thinking the exhaust might be plugged... or the catylic converters. Somethings definitely wrong. It'll just lug and lug and no matter how much gas I give it, it'll only accelerate extremely slow.. Which doesn't make the people behind me very happy.

Anyone know what this is? Or have you had the same problem?

i had a similar problem and my clutch was all gone, so maybe it's time for a new clutch.

either that or maybe ur 5th gear is screwed and u just need a new trans.. have a mechanic take a look... i wouldn't take it to honda though, theyd rip you a new hole for any of that kinda work. if you try going by your local technical college's auto-tech department and show off your titties i'm sure someone will offer to do it for free or for a bj.

if the exhaust was blocked it would probably choke the engine till it cut out if you floored it. could be bad gas in it or something with the fuel injector. try fuel injector cleaner and see if that improves it at all.

try NOT switching gears so early.. if you're already in 5th, and you ONLY got up to 45? in my del slo, i would still be in 3rd. and it is a del SLO, so that's another problem.
