Honda Civic overfilled engine oil?

I have a 1990 Honda Civic with a newer engine swap (not sure of year / model). Long story short, I noticed the engine running a little odd, so I checked the dipstick and it was a quart low. I messed up and ended up putting an extra quart of oil in, and a heavier weight (10W-40 instead of 5W-30) - which I didn't notice til later (please, I feel like a big enough moron as it is). I started the car up, let it idle for a bit, everything felt smoother. I drove it about 0.75-1 mile, running quite nicely, and then the oil light came on (assuming I lost pressure), and the engine cut off. I was able to get it to turn back on for a few seconds, but that was it.

The next morning (when I could actually see), I drained the excess oil, but still no luck. I did not notice any metal shavings, foam / froth, or any milky / water in the oil I drained. But the car still will not start up - but it DOES turn over.

I've read that I could try doing an oil and filter change, and this may solve the problem.

Does anyone have any idea what may have happened? What I should look at? I'm sure the obvious answer is take it to my friendly neighborhood mechanic, but I would also like to know, if there are any mechanics out there, what likely the issue may be - and should I waste the effort and money of doing the oil / filter change (as opposed to just taking it in to have it looked at, ie: more money)?
