honda civic or vw jetta?

i cant decide wether to get a civic or jettawichever i get i know im going to put a turbo .... i keep hearing jettas always break down and are really expensive.. i have a 97 passat vr6 it just broke down and had a civic 94 i put 150,000 miles on it it had 100,000 when i got it and it only broke down once when outta gas lol i love honda's but i want a fast car.. any ideas i dotn want to spend over 4000 on the car itslef... also i love working on cars i hear vw's if you mess up even instaling a cd player hit wrong wires you could mess upo the whole electrical system
