Whilst driving on freeway, engine started to hear a clanging noise, which increased in frequency and loudness when accelerator was pressed. The engine then just died. Had the car hauled to a repair shop, who have told me that the engine is "DEAD". They can not even manually turn the crank. Apparently there was no oil in the engine (the warning light cam on a few days ago (it was intermittent) and yesterday the engine died.

Repair shop is quoting a price of $5900 to replace the engine (inlcudes labor). The replacement engine apparently comes with a 3 year warranty.

Alternative is to junk the car (one yard if offering $300!).

Is the cost of the replacement engine worth having it done and then trading it in?

Kelley Blue book has a FAIR Value of $3500.
A GOOD value is $4175. My car would fall in between. But if the engine is replaced (with its 3 month warranty), woudl that not increase teh trade in value?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Ash
