Honda Civic 96 engine problem?

Here's the sequence of events prior to the current problem:
Civic 96 could not start engine, took it to a repair shop, replaced distributor, car ran fine again for 3 months, until it started stuttering/choking when engine rev'ed above 2.5K RPM. Now it stutters at any speed at irregular intervals, every few seconds, it feels like something's blocking the engine rev, but the engine overcomes it, there's a very slight "metal being dragged on ground" sound when the engine is running (there's nothing actually touching the ground). One more thing though, I usually change oil once every 4-5K miles, and the oil would still be between the recommended levels, and I changed oil a couple weeks prior to the distributor replacement. however, this time I found out the oil was dried up when I checked at 4K miles, I added oil in, then it seemed to smooth out lower speeds for a few days, now it's getting worse. I have not had time to change the oil yet. Also, the engine light now flashes whenever it stutters, it feels like it might break down any minute, even though it still runs...

I know I have not taken enough care of the car lately, and I was actually going to sell it after the distributor replacement. I didn't expect it to last this short though, what could be most likely wrong here? I am not sure if I should get it fixed then sell it, or just sell it as is now? thanks
