I have a 2001 honda civic. this car i know for a fact that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced, but at the same time it started doing this weird thing, Okay lets say you are driving and an you have gone a distance when all of the sudden you stop at a light and wait for a while the car starts to shake a little and when you try to run it won't let you go past 20 miles per hour. I thought it was the transmission but sometimes you don't need to be running when it does that, I mean you could hit the gas but it acts like something is blocking it. When it cools down for about 30 minutes it runs fine again. but some times it turns off immediately and won't start until you let it rest for 30 minutes or so. What can it be????????? i don't want to waste money guessing. my mechanic doesn't know what it is due to the fact that it never does it when he is around.
