hi i have an 87 accord Ex and today i was coming frm my friends place and i turned right and heard a loud crash and then the car stalled, i saw that the front left wheel nearly came off and the bearings were seperated from it, i had the mechanic look at it and she showed me that the tire rod had been split from the middle, thats why this happened... the steering box is oki for now, should i have the old tire rod repaired or go for a newer one... whats the best thing to do and what else will i have to replace, i already am having the brake pipe replaced... what else... whats the theory of it all, how could it come off just with a turn???i also have 2 pics of it, if anyone wants to see the thing i can send it on your emails so you guys can clearly see whats happened...

im sorry, you still drive a car from 1987???? Is it even worth that much to fix??? obviously you should total it, get your 30 dollars from insurance and put it towards a down payment on anything more modern! Maybe something safer, with AIRBAGS at least??

its called a tie rod, basically connects the wheel to the steering rack, it come off because it was worn out, repairs shouldn't be too bad as long as the ball joints and such were not affected

to the person above who has no idea what they are talking about...

whats a better value, a car that has proved itself reliable for many years, is paid for, gets great gas mileage, cheap insurace....

or a car that costs 200+ a month, plus expensive insurance, and likely gets worse mileage, not to mention could turn out to be a lemon...
