honda '99 heater/fan - whats up?

Hi my heater/fan on honda civic has been playing up - sometimes working /sometimes not. Its like it slows down and just makes a rattly noise like its trying to work but not doing anything. Sometimes cuts off and if I leave it it can sometimes come back on full pelt after maybe 10 minutes. Any advise rather than an expensive garage fix at this time of year,
Thanks in advance. ps I can wield a screwdriver lol.

Change the heater motor its bad they are easy to change and the motor is fairly cheap.It is located under the dash on passenger side.
