I joined the newspaper staff of my high school recently and I have "volunteered" to interview the homecoming court. This is a little awkward for me as I tend to Focus on writing rather than reporting. My main concern is to get the interviews done without seeming like a press nuisance (nobody likes the paparazzi). What would be the best way to start? Should I casually walk up and say "were from the newspaper, would you mind if we ask you a few questions" or something like that? One of the senior members of the staff has agreed to accompany me and give me some pointers, but still I'm worried about seeming to be an annoyance.

Secondly, what would be some good questions to ask? This will definitely go into the paper and a quote highlighted.

Thanks! I really appreciate it.
