My 4 month old collie came out of kennels 1 week ago. Over the past few days, he has developed a cough which also makes him retch. My other dog has had kennel cough a long time ago, so am quite sure this is what it is. Are there any remedies I can try myself before taking him to the vets? Somebody told me to try Calpol, but am a bit wary giving him paracetamol. Also, is it likely that this will now be passed to my 13 year old dog, living in the same house? I am shocked that this virus is still working its way around kennels and also annoyed that when I booked my dog into the kennels 6 months ago, they didnt advise me to get him vaccinated against kennel cough, only to ensure he has had his puppy vaccinations...... Vets are very costly these days (£30.00 for initial consultation) and wanted to try my own methods first.
