Once I read a few answers on here that talked of a home-made catbox that was constructed out of a giant plastic container, you know the kind you hold stuff in? Well someone had an instructional video link and i followed it. And it works good, but now I'm not so sure.
See buying a regular big cat box, with it being high walls works well to stop urine from getting on the walls, but the cats jump out and get litter on the floor. Even putting down padding or something around the box doesn't make much a difference. If you buy a catbox with a door in it, i find that when digging around the cats push the litter out of the box. One of my elder cats problems walking and jumping and the door works fine. Cutting up the container works great, its easy for him to get in and out of, it contains the scent more, and the walls are high enough.
Now the problem i find is, the lid seems to catch piss sometimes, as does the inner indents that catch the piss and make it a puddle. It does this almost daily, I use paper towels to wipe off the roof and the collected urine about the box. I find the pee on the walls unsafe. I took the top off, but the damn cats prefer to jump out of it rather than walk out the door lol.
So, is this container actually safe? I clean it out about once every 4 days or so. I'm just afraid the container may be not so safe. Any info?
