Holux Gpslim 240 + E61 - No satellite connection!?

I just got my Holux gpslim 240 in the mail for use with my E61. I got the 240 to pair with the e61, but I cant get a satellite signal from the 240!? The satellite light does not flash (indicating a lock) but stays on solid. It's fully charged, I tried turning it off and on, went outide in the relatively clear sky, and still no lock. Also walked around about 200m and still nothing.

Any ideas? I'm using Tomtom 6 and also tried the navigation software that came with my E61, both say waiting for GPS signal but nothing happens (nokia software says "no conection"

E61 is running the latest firmware as of 2 weeks ago via NSU.

thanks for the help

How long did you let it sit there?
My adivce is to go outside on a clear day, set the GPS down on a table or something, turn it on, and don't touch it for ten minutes or so.
When a GPS has been off and moved a significant distance, it can take quite a while to re-acquire its bearings. Once it gets a lock, subsequent locks should take a fraction of the time.

I had it outside while I was walking to class for about 10 minutes, but I guess I should let it sit in one place huh.

Is placing it on a window sill of my 3rd floor appt just as good as taking it outside or no? I only ask because it's quite hot out

thanks!

Yeah, the GPS will have a lot harder time trying to get a lock when you move it around. Put it under an umbrella if you have to, but it should have an unobstructed view of the sky, and above all else, let it sit for a while.

will do, thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how it goes. Do GPSs usually obtain a lock while indoors or is that pretty much impossible? I was hoping to use it with my desktop too, but it's not a big deal.

thanks

I had the same problem using my E65 with a HOLUX GPSlim 240, and I couldn't get a signal despite 4 days of trying everything.

I eventually took it back to the shop (they couldn't get it to work either!), and I exchanged it for a G-Space R240B, which is almost identical, and it's even made by the same company, and it worked like a charm within 5 minutes.

No idea why one failed and the other worked, but there you have it!

.

If you are using smart2go

Options->Views->Satellite info

will report on the satellites that the GPS can actually see. This will give you a little more information than the blinking light on the 240.

I played around with the GPSlim 240 for about a week. It worked but it was a real pain to get a signal lock from it. I switched to something with a larger antenna, Globalsat BT-359W, and now i couldnt be happier.

well I let it find a lock outside (NOT under trees, oops) and it found a lock in about 2minutes. Now it finds a lock after being turned off for a while in about 20-30sec, love it! I even got it to work from near my window now that it has found a lock!

great unit, I can keep in my pocket and works like a charm. I just hope it works the same in my car, that's the real test...

where do you guys keep your bluetooth gps units in your cars?? I dont want it to be falling around everywhere....

thanks for the help!

Once my 240 finds lock, I find I can stick it just about anywhere. Mine came with lots of warnings not to leave it in the sun (ie, dashboard), so I try to avoid that.

Yeah, these GPSes with the SiRFStar III chipset are very sensitive; you can put them almost anywhere (after they achieve satellite lock).

I put mine in the dash hole under my head unit, center console, or glovebox.

If you travel a significant distance with the GPS off, it will take another while before the GPS realizes its been moved and can get a lock.

Might have to try it with the TomTom if these work well inside the glove box.

Can you use a BT headset and use the GPS at the same time in Nokia S60 phones (have an e70-2)?
