For people who woke one day with unbelievable Hives and then later Angioedema, you should find a specialist above and beyond your GP. I posted on these boards before and wanted to pass along the outcome.
I had these symptoms and finally found a specialist from Johns Hopkins who after a few visits tried some basic treatments. I fell into a common category that had no allergies nor major diseases, but my Autoimmune system kicked up and was attacking myself for no reason. He tried a few drugs and the one that worked wonders was an autoimmune suppressant (Cyclosporine), that they give Transplant patients to ward off their attacks from their own immune system on the new transplanted organ. He told me that a large degree of people who get an awful episode of Hives / Angioedema that for 90% of the people, it disappears on it's own in two years. He explained that in the 40's experts thought it was psychological, and then in the 70' the experts related all hives to what your eating and allergies. Now the new thinking is that your autoimmune can just kick in and it could brought on by stress and other changes in life, but for most its not at all about what your digesting everyday nor an exotic disease. Yes diet can help but these kind of hives have a rhythm and they just come and go as they please. As we know most drugs don't cure anything but help counteract issues while the body heals or gets over something.
I wanted to wait and ensure that I was past my episode and I can now say that it took me two years but my Hives & Angioedema have been gone for six months. At about the two year mark it slowly began to disappear. Life is now good again.
I just wanted to post that not all hives are tied to a terrible diseases or allergies. Find a specialist and move off your allergost / GP since that is what they are, General Practioniers.
Please realize that the medical community is still searching as we are for answers and they don't scour the web everynight nor track down every hair brain remedy or post like this one. I am telling you though that you gotta go investigate, read, and talk to specialists. Don't just believe in one of your docs.
Bless you all and Good luck.
