Hitch, hike from Newcastle from the A1..start from any motorway services..or from a slip road that takes you on to the A1...make a sign from an old cardboard box stating where u intend to go.

A1-M62-WALES.

You could put on your sign..Leeds as its on the M62 route, the M62 takes you right in to Liverpool...from theere you can hitch a lift through the Mersey tunnel in to Wales...

Always start from a sliproad on to the dual carriageway/M way or from a motorway services..where there is plenty of trucks.percivere you will get picked up eventually...and if it takes time or its cold or rainy..u can pop in to the warm dry services for a cup of tea...and always smile..
good luck.

Does anyone know of good sites for Hitching through the UK.
e,g,rideshares/carshares etc.
Thanks to the first 2 answers.
I've hitched many times before but I thought there should be a site for hitchers and rides offered.

Traditionally hitching just requires you to stick your thumb out and hope for a lift. There seem to be very few hitchers around these days, and I haven't hitched for 20+ years. I used to hitch a lot (UK, France, Belgium, Germany etc) and always had a sign with my next intended destination in BIG letters. Be careful, and be willing not to get into a car or truck if you're not comfortable with it. I used to feel safest and got best lifts when travelling with my GF.
Let people at home know where you're going, take your mobile and maps of your route. Be prepared for the weather to change and for some long waits, but it can be fun and you meet some interesting people.
Good luck.
