not really, it 's like raising your kids if you never correct them and you go to in fact correct them. how would they react? would the welcome it? or would they rebel? it's the same thing here.. they left them alone for so long that when they wanted to rule over them they rejected it, and then they couldn't under stand why they were rebelling against them..
