history question about the english church?

as all ready stated the English are Anglicans not Lutherans.

The lutherans in germany and central europe spent 30 years fighting the catholics of the holy roman empire and over a million germans died.
torture and massacres were very common on both sides and entire towns in germany were destroyed and the populations killed by one side or another. so it is safe to say neither side was too friendly with the other.

The Methodists are an off shoot of the Anglican church and was formed after the english civil war, i.e in the 1650's which is a long time after the first colonies were planted. and also long after the terrible religious wars were finished in europe.

none of them liked the catholic church but the anglicans and lutherans still based their religious practises (the mass) on the catholic practise's and based themselves in ex-catholic churches. (and like the catholics believed in saints etc)

another off shoot of the anglican church that REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hated the catholics were the Puritans.

and they viewed everything about the catholic church as blasphemy.
and they also hated the other Protestant religions as well as they felt they were just catholic-lite organisations, after the gained power in england, they destroyed or defaced any Protestant churches, smashed the statues of saints etc, tore out the stained glass windows, melted down the gold or silver religious icons int he church and then boarded up the Churches and made it a crime to enter them.
instead they wanted the people to practise their religion at home in small groups or in town halls or meeting places, ANYWHERE but these old ex-catholic churches.
