HISTORY PLEASE HELP!! Mass Society, Imperialism, and Anti-Colonialism?

The 20th century was the most violent and bloodiest century of human history. What could have led to this kind of destruction? Could it be the rise of nationalist ideologies from the 19th century? The intellectual, artistic, and social movements that changed the way people lived and thought? Political tensions arising from the breakdown of old empires? Was it the greed caused by capitalism that led to imperial ambitions? Was it the shrinking globe?

I have to teach others about how a particular region of the world was affected by, and responded to, these conditions at the turn of the 20th century. I have to present the most important and relevant data related to the history of that region and the events entering into the 20th century. The history that I am covering should not go beyond 1914!
PLEASE HELP!!!
