1. Amendments 16-19 are the amendments from the early 1900's. Each of them changed some aspect of the political, economic, and social lives of Americans. How?
How did they change America?

2. 20th amendment: Lame duck period shortened for federal officials (1933)

How did this amendment change American government?
3. 26th amendment gave 18 year olds the right to vote. What was the reasoning?

16--direct election of senators, as states' legislatures had been doing the electing. This made senators a bit more responsive to popular will and eliminated some corrupt practices in choosing them.
17 gave us the income tax. Feh! Seriously, without it we could not have 99% of the federal government we have today, which some might say would be a great idea.
18, prohibition was a cranky notion that failed.
19 gave women the vote (altho some states had granted it earlier)
20 was brought in because during a national emergency such as the Great Depression, going with a defeated or retiring President for 4 months after an election was ridiculous
26 was brought about by complaints that if 18 year olds are old enough to be drafted and fight for our country they were old enough to vote.
