The fall of Western Rome was definitely something that happened over a long period of time. Most Historians agree that the decline of the empire began at Marcus Aurelius’ death (A.D. 180). The downfall of the empire was caused by many issues such as the latifundia system, lack of patriotism, invasions of barbaric tribes, taxes, the rise of Christianity, and drastic inflation. Rome’s struggle to maintain western Rome would last over 200 years before completely crashing.
