It was said that Apple had originally approached Verizon before they did Cingular (AT&T), but Verizon didn't want to share any royalties with Apple. As a CDMA phone, that means there was the potential that the iPhone could have been flashed to a Cricket phone.

Alas. What a shame!

Oh, well--I'm loving my Cricket-flashed UTStarcom xv6700 too much to worry about that right now! :2thurabs:
 
Not a loss, really, unless you are just another lame trend follower. I have a feeling the phone will suck as badly as the ipod does, or worse. There are much better communication options out there.

Now if someone would come out with a reliable CDMA/VOIP corabo phone, that would be a coup.
