History buffs, I need your wisdom! Need a topic for research paper!?

Well, I'm not a history buff, but I know that the Watergate scandal was the cause of many Americans distrust in their own government.

Blacks gaining liberties caused an uprising in racists who didn't want that to happen. I guess you could say MLK or Rosa Parks caused conflicts. In the end, though, it seemed to work out for the better.

Hey! So for anyone that is interested in history, this is for you. So I am in a tenth grade honors CWI class, which stands for Current World Issues. Anyways, we're doing a project on causes of conflict. So I need some causes of international conflict that occured about 40 years or sooner. An example of causes of conflict would be say, 9/11. That caused many problems and problems we're still dealing with today. I don't want to do one that is too well known or one that all the other kids are going to do. So if you could let me know what you think is a good cause of conflict and if you could leave me some links, I would be soooooooo grateful! Thanks guys (:

- the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 (It technically wasn't a huge conflict, but it was arguably the closest we've gotten to nuclear war)
