Hi all just wanted to tell you the pain in my hip had subsided some but it sure is back now. Now it seems to go from my low back on the right side and wraps around my hip. It pretty much feels like a mule kicked me! (nope I don't have a mule but do have a large kitty cat) Anyway it feels bruised and very tender. My Pm is going to start a round of prolotherapy April,1st. I have only done prolo on my neck with good results, So I am hopeful this will help. I know one thing for sure its going to hurt for a few days but you know what they say no pain no gain. If anyone else has had this I would appreciate hearing your experience. If not what helps your pain?

Dee, this is what Shawley had that gave him months of relief.

I pray it works for you. This pain stinks!!

Dee, my hip pain has slowly been improving and my recent flare up wasn't in that area. I'm really hoping that this means the hip thing is resolving. I'm very interested, though, in hearing about the prolotherapy. I'm not familiar with it. I'm a little leary of my PM. Not that he isn't good, but it makes me uneasy when he keeps searching for ways to relieve this pain that doesn't actually even have a diagnosis! When the injections didn't work, I thought maybe they'd finally do an MRI and figure out exactly what's going on, but nope! I don't like this "diagnosis by treatment" method. If the treatment works, that's what the problem was. If not, try something else. I asked him if it was reasonable to watch and wait at this point, and he agreed to that. He actually seemed relieved that that's what I wanted to do. I think he didn't have another suggestion for me.

Please tell me how it goes and what it's like.

Thanks! Hope it helps!
Emily

Hi Bay, How are you doing today? I am having the procedure April 1st. Hope no one plays any tricks on me;) I know the procedure in my neck hurt like crazy so, I imagine this will hurt also, but I will live. I always do the conscious sedation when they do this in my neck. What they do is take a needle and go deep to irritate ligaments and increase blood supply to initiate healing. The best part is that they don't use drugs they inject a glucose solution. Its supposed to help your body regenerate degenerated material.( like collagen) I have read a lot of good things about it and I met a women in the hospital ( its an outpatient procedure) who said she had a lot of success with it. I am hoping Shawley will come on here and tell me about his experience. Pepper said he had it and has been out and about doing his thing. I would be happy if I could catch up on my house work and go fishing when it warms up.

Blue, I am really glad to hear that your hip pain is subsiding. I was surprised by the intensity of it and how much it has effected me. Hi Pep. long time no hear from! So shawley has had this procedure in low back and hip? If you hear from him tell him I would like to ask him a few questions. I have had prolo in my neck and it worked wonders. The problem with my neck was, that it would get stuck and pop and was just painful. Since the prolo I rarely have the popping and none of the sticking unless I sit at the computer for hours. Which I shouldn't do anyway lol:). I really hope this helps my hip and I am so happy that my doctor is trained in this procedure. I have heard that there aren't that many PM's that do this procedure. My PM is hosting a series on chronic pain and alternative treatments this month. I think I am going to go. Its one of those brown bag series, where you take lunch and hear a lecture. If anyone is interested I can let you know what she talks about. Take Care All, Dee

Hi Dee, I'm doing as good as I can do LOL It's raining today and I am sooooo sfitt and achy. Other than that I'm goind well!

When they did this on your neck...did they put the needle right into your cervical spine? Would this be done similarly to an epidural? Like do they put it right inbetween your joints??

I'd also be interested in hearing about this prolotherapy. Please let us know how it seems to work for your hips.

I had it before spinal fusion so its probably been 2 years.I know the needle felt like it hit bone. Prolo hurts more than the epidural because its more than one shot. Dr. Kochert drew a grid with about 12 dots on it and then she used a fluroscope to see the targets she wanted to hit and then it was just one shot after another. That first treatment was really painful but it got easier with each treatment. I do have to say I don't do pain very well so it may not be as painful for some people as it was for me. I hurt pretty bad for a day or so afterward but I did go camping later on that week and was more active then normal. So I am just wondering if the low back and hip is more painful than the neck? One great thing about the treatment was that my migraines decreased for quite awhile. I went a few months without having to take any immitrex. I know we cant post links here but if you use prolotherapy as a search term there are a couple of good sites that explain it better than I can. We had rain and snow here yesterday and boy did I hurt. At least it didn't last long.
