hip pain and sciatica

Hi,

I would like to know what is possible to do with hip pain, knowing that it apparently does not come from the back (no pain there, no problem with any discs, no traumas, no family history of arthritis, i'm only32). The sciatica begins from the gluts, and although i do regular stretching for this area, the pain persists. Also I checked but the difference in lenght of my legs is 0,5cm so not that big.
In the end though there is a clear difference between my hips, the right one being higher (by roughly 2-3 cm).
Do you think it could come from a problem of alignment in my back? if not what else could it be? and more important, what can be done?

Rachel -- I am in the same boat you are. My hips are not aligned and I have had severe sciatica now for 2 years (I'm only 23 and was healthy prior to this). My physical therapist would do stretches specifically for my hip flexors and I also went to a podiatrist to get inserts to put in my shoes to even up my legs. These things provided very temporary relief for me unfortunately and my pain hasn't gotten any better, probably worse. But I'm sure this could work for other people and is worth trying.
 
I am unsure regarding things with hip alignments, but the first thing that came to my mind reading your post was pinformis syndrome have you read up regarding that?


The piriformis syndrome is a condition in which the piriformis muscle irritates the sciatic nerve, causing pain in the buttocks and referring pain along the course of the sciatic nerve. This referred pain, called "sciatica", often goes down the back of the thigh and/or into the lower back. Patients generally complain of pain deep in the buttocks, which is made worse by sitting, clirabing stairs, or performing squats. The piriformis muscle assists in abducting and laterally rotating the thigh. In other worRAB, while balancing on the left foot, move the right leg directly sideways away from the body and rotate the right leg so that the toes point towarRAB the ceiling. This is the action of the right piriformis muscle.
 
I am seeing a Chiropractor for my sciatica pain problem. He had also given me a lift to wear in my shoe yrs ago. He had me put that back in immediately.
