Three years ago I had L4/L5 and L5/S1 fusion with artificial discs. I have been going to my pain doc for 2 years. We have always focused on my neck because the pain was so much worse in my neck than my back and leg until about 3 months ago. I told my pain doc I would not discuss my back until the pain got so bad it hurt worse than my neck. Well that day is here :(

About 3 months ago, I started having pain in my left hip that went around to the front of my thigh ending at my knee. It came and went. Each time it hurt, I said well its a nerve flare up, well its the weather, well I did to much today etc. For a month now, the pain hasn't stopped. I can't even walk to my mail box and back without it just THROBBING and burning.

I am scheduled for an MRI on Wednesday. I haven't had one on my back in 2 years. My pain doc who is also an anesthesiologist specializing in the spine said it could be a couple things. I may have a herniated disc at the L2/L3 level or the L3/L4 level. OR The artificial discs could have slipped infringing nerves.

I tried to look up lurabar dermatomes to see which nerves those discs affected but they aren't consistent. Depending on which website you find, it either shows this pain to be the L4/L5 which have been fused with the artificial disc or it could be the discs he mentioned. He stated that I do have spondylosis (SP?) in my cervical and lurabar spine but that was a new one to me. My neurologist never mentioned this. If I understood his pronunciation correctly, this is just arthritis right? How would arthritis cause nerve pain?

Has anyone else had pain in their hip and front thigh like this? If so, which discs were the culprit?

Thanks for any input. I am just trying to figure out what is going on with my back now *sigh*

Yes I have front thigh pain and mine is from L3-L4 herniation with a smaller herniation at L2-L3. Along with thigh pain I also have shin pain. This is indicative of the L4 nerve.

It can get complicated! I have a herniated L5-S1 with nerve root displacement and I get back hip-down front to knee contuning to shin-ankle-under my foot arch and into heel and toes. You can get bone ridging (spurs)which is the spondylosis even where they have already fixed, that can press nerve, or you can bulge or herniate above or below what was fixed. You need a new MRI to help see what is going on.

I am also having these symptoms and it's become debilitating. It comes on the longer I stay on my feet and then is so painful even when I elevate it in the recliner. I have yet to find a solution.

I am also having these symptoms and it's become debilitating. It comes on the longer I stay on my feet and then is so painful for quite a while, even when I elevate it in the recliner. I have not had a "back" issue, but did fall on my hip about two years ago. X-Ray was negative and I have yet to find a solution.

Hello there, I have the hip and front thigh pain. my MRI says L4/L5 there is a moderate bilateral facet joint osteoarthritis with subchondral sclerosis and trace joint effusions.
plus in my L5/S1 there DDD with a 3mm degerative anterolisthesis. there is a small posterior bulge. there is a severe right and moderate left joint arthorosis. also there is a mild left neural foraminal stenosis with minimal impingement upon the exiting left L5 nerve root by the hypertrophied left facet joint.

My symptoms are lower back pain, hip/quadriceps burning pain left/right, hamstrings burning pain, left/righ.

I tried ESP it did not help, I may go for another one. I dont know which of the injures is causing my leg pain so much.
