Hindu Vaishnavas burn their body using Shank, Chakra symbols to eliminate sins. Is it a proof of knowledge?

If so, why can't they beat their head with a stick? Why they didn't Cut their hands and body parts into pieces and suffer pain to get rid of their sins? This question is asked by the writer of the below verse just to show that it is very foolish to do such religious customs. Will it enlighten such Theists?
