I am thinking of hiking Mount Marcy in the ADK's this summer with my kids one 7 and one 11. has anyone else done this with children? I would like to know your success or failures to help educate myself. We do alot of hiking in western NY (Finger lakes trails) 1 mile to 4 mile. But 7miles up and 7miles back on the Van Hoevenberg trail. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have hiked up Mt Marcy in the past, but not with children. I can tell you that it's a long hike just to get to the base of the summit. If you start out at Adirondack Loj and take the Van Hoevenberg Trail, you'll need to hike over 7 miles one way. Once you get to the base of the summit, the climb is fairly easy. The toughest part will probably be the hike back to the Loj. Everytime I hiked in that area, the hike back to the car always seemed endless. Good Luck...and have fun!
