High School academic and applied classes (Canada)?

Okay, I'm going to high school next year, and i want to take as much academic classes as i can. But I'm an average 80% student (french not included), and im worried It'll be too hard. If you sign up for an academic class, and it's too hard, is it easy to switch to applied classes? also, what's the "difficulty" difference between academic classes and applied. And: how many academics do you have to take to get into university?

Yes, i know alot to answer; I am not taking academic maths, unless I find it easy, because My school has a bad reputation for teaching maths. Will i still get into University without academic math?
