I know it's NOT the fan. I have a solid state HD, so it's not that either.
My processor is the quad core i7-720. Only at low frequencies, ~ 928 Mhz, it emits this annoying piercing noise. When at turbo boost (2.8 Ghz), or even on moderate loads, it's silent, and I hear the normal soft buzzing sound of a working processor.
Any suggestions? Could be something with the power management? I had this damn problem with my old Dell laptop too. My current laptop is the Lenovo y560, specs: i7-720, 8 gb RAM, Ati 5730, 256 gb Crucial SSD.
Ok...it seems that after I unplug my external monitor, the whining subsides. This is so strange. It can't be my graphics card can it?
