Hi since last week i've had this high idle problem on my manual neon 2003.
rev will fluctuate between 800 and 1500 when the car is hot (after about 5 minutes of driving) but mainly stay at 1500. When i'm about to start the car i will always have rock hard brake pedal, until the car starts it will be possible to press it, as opposed to before the idle problem, my break pedal was smooth before start up. It softens up as soon as the car is started. The engine light turns on about 2 seconds after i light up the car. now im not a mechanic at all i've never done any kind of repair, i have no idea how to do an oil change, and dont have a tester to read codes. i've read this in another forum: "probably a vacuum leak and if it's the main line to the power brakes, that will give you hard brakes and high idle." Does that sound like its the problem i have? My brakes are only hard prior to startup. If so, how do i check for leak in the main line? maybe someone could supply me with a picture of what the main line is? Are vacuum lines the rubber tubes connected to the string of my gas pedal? Also is it safe to drive my car? i havent been using it for a week in fear that it will die on me. please help me out. thank you
Error code is P0507. Tonight i took out the car, after 4 days without using it, and after 10 minutes of driving, the idle disapeared. A restart later, the check engine light disappeared. Drove around for an hour or so and my RPM is back to acting regularly. But i still feel like my gas pedal doesn't have all of it's usual kick. And having some trouble shifting to 1st.
i meant the high idle problem disapeared
