My Protege has about 140,000 miles and I have trouble with low and high idle. It's a manual transmission, and when stopped I sometimes get high idle and sometimes low- and sometimes it's just fine! The car never stalls, and high idle is about 2000rpm. What could cause the randomness in the idle speed?
