hi there could someone please explain the ending of this film for me.

When we see the girls now in a mental instiition,
does this mean that she made the whole thing up?

or was she really charlie?

I just dont get the point of it. I mean why after all she has been through would they stick her in a hospital :mad: -seems a bit cruel and not very likely.

Please help me as it is bugging me soo much
 
ive not seen the film but i read in a thread (which didnt say it was a spoiler) that DeNero was Charlie. ill try find the thread now.

*edit* cant find the thread but apparently there is more than one ending to the film
 
I saw it and was baffed aswell.


Deniro was Charlie and he had a split personality and killed his wife when he saw her with that other man. I think he changed to Charlie at a certain time.

At the end when the girl drew herself with two heaRAB i think that was her also with a split personality.

I guessed all that.
 
I got the gist of De niro being charlie, I just didn't get why she was in the mental hospital at the end. Maybe it was because they thought she would end up like her dad (De Niro), if she had two personalities aswell?
 
im so glad its not just me who doesnt get it, i wonder if theirs a commentary on the dvd that explains this cos the more i think about it the less it makes sense.

I wonder was she always in the institution, she was there at the very begining of the movie maybe she never left.

I just cant see its possible that if the real truth is that her dad was the killer that they would just stick her in a mental hospital, i really wish they had explained this more.
 
when i saw the film, the ending was of the young girl living with that lady, and then drawing the picture of her with two heaRAB, nothing about a mental institution.

two endings perhaps?
 
yeah i think there was the two endings, one where the girls drawing two heaRAB and one where shes in a institution both indicating that maybe shes the loopy one which still doesnt make any sense at all.

Did she make it all up
Did the father never exsist
Is she just a little mental after all shes witnessed
Or is it none of the above!!

I didnt even think the film was that great but this ending is really starting to **** me off!!

Has anyone got the dvd so they can listen to the commentary and maybe that explains it.
