Hi

Hi,

IMO, that is Ok to use a short time for superficial skin problems. It's true that we have all kinds of bacteria on the skin at all times.

Are they surface like lesions or deep abcesses? Do they have a head that will break open?

I would not use an antibiotic wash for a chronic abcess problem. I would insist on a culture to be done on one of the open abcesses and request an antibiotic that treats the specific bacteria type until it is gone.

If I had to go to a different doctor to get help, then I would do it.

if they are very shallow surface infections I would

swab with rubbing alcohol to cleanse
or
swab with hydrogen peroxide twice a day for up to three days.

If they are deep abcesses that won't pop or open, then I would definitely insist on an antibiotic that is specifically for skin infections. (antibiotics aren't all equal).

Also use immune system building supplements and eat right so your body can resist the bacteria.

hibicleanse is a soap... Its Spelled Hibiclens..Its a fast acting broad spectrum antimicrobial skin cleanser..It continues to kill germs up to six hours after washing..It prevents skin infections... I would use it as it probably will help..

The abscess' are not big. The bigger ones were maybe 3 millimeters or so, and most were smaller. They are a white head (pus I presume), and red inflammation up to 1 cm in diameter around the head of the 'pimple'. The first time I got a big painful one, the Dr gave me Mupirocin cream which I have since used quite a few times on subsequent abscess'.

I asked the doctor once to take a culture, but he said it was too small.

Hi,

I have used topical antibiotics on that kind of skin infection and it seemed to go away but came back until I was on Cipro for a different reason. Topical antibacterial wash did nothing for it.

I think it may be infected hair folicles (folliculitis). Regardless what it may be named, mine didn't clear up until I took the antibiotic, Cipro, which is effective against bacteria: http://www.rxlist.com/cipro-drug.htm

You could ask your doctor to humor you and let you try it. If he won't I would definitely get a different doctor. If you do get an antibiotic, make sure to complete the prescription, and if the problem is improved but comes back, ask for a second run of the drug.

Meanwhile, make sure to shower and clean your skin every day, esp. if you have oily skin (skin oil gets rancid within one day) and that you wear clean clothes and don't borrow clothes from others. Let us know what happens.
