"The Fisher of Men"
Stephen Rodriguez
While driving on the highway, you’d be sore
to feel the A/C cut, then hear your car
shout out “No farther! I can’t take no more!”
When dad and I were driving, not too far
ahead we saw a man alone and on
the road, barefoot, in shorts and sleeveless shirt.
As fish to fisherman, our car was drawn
until two wheels were resting in the dirt.
My dad got out and stopped the walking man.
He asked “Excuse me, do you need a lift?”
The man said “No, I’m fine. I think I can
continue with my walk. I like to drift
from place to place, to see what I can see,
although, I’m glad when people stop for me.”
