10 pts. for anyone who can help me :D
Hi, I need help wiht my Liberal Arts math class....my professor is horrible at explaining anything so I'm pretty much on my own here.

We're learning about Logic.

I don't understand how you negate a sentence like for example the book is heavy would the answer be....the book is not heavy?? It's just that it looks too simple to be correct but idk....
Also like when it says It's not raining when you negate it, so would the answer be It is raining.

Also, how do you do the Disjunction problems. This is one of my homework problems
p=the coffee is Maxwell house
q=the coffee is hot
r=the coffee is strong

Then the problem is (p V ~q) "and" (the upside down V) ~r

This is the part that confuses me if I'm not mistaken "it's the coffee is Maxwell house" but then the whole "or" thing confuses me.....so I don't understand the middle part but I think I have the last part which is....."and the coffee is not strong."

You are right about the negation of simple sentences: just put "not" in, or if it has not already, take it out.

Disjunctions, with "or", are true as long as at least one part is true. So the only way it can be false is is both parts are false.

That symbolic statement would be
The coffee is Maxwell House or the coffee is not hot, and the coffee is not strong.
