Hi i am going 2 do open mic (poetry) i have never been on stage... tips?

Imagine there not there
look past them
e.g... look for a clock, something you can focus on, but not forget your lines, and not be distracted by.
 
Do your shorter poems.

Take a crib sheet with you and read them if necessary.

Put on some pancake powder so your nose doesn't shine.

Wear a dark top.

Make sure your face and hair are nice.

Don't rush. Take deep breaths. Deliver the lines so the audience can feel their meaning to you.

Be relaxed, think of your audience as naked people, totally insecure, worse than you.

Rehearse -- a lot.

Use a mirror and a tape recorder.

Make sure you are enunciating precisely, and going slow enough. Poetry is already a bit hard to understand. Make yours easy for your audience.
