Hi all,

I was getting out of the shower in early/mid Deceraber and I bent over to towel the glistening water off my svelt, slender legs :jester: ;). When I began to straighten up, I felt what seemed like several of the vertebrae in my lower back shift. Then the seering sharp pain (along with the screaming) started. I couldn't move. I guessed that the vertebrae had shifted and in doing so caught a nerve between the vertebrae and just rubbed it the wrong way. Since then the majority of the pain has gone away and left just a minor dull ache that hasn't abated.

Long story short, since that event my toes--all but the pinky toe--have been cold. I thought maybe it had something to do with the Niaspan I was taking for cholesterol issues so I stopped that--and the cold persists. I can get them warm and if I lay down in the evening they will stay warm all night. However, when I get up and about and especially if I sit in my work chair (home office), they go cold and stay cold.

Has anyone experienced cold toes as a result of lower back pinched nerves?

Thanks,
OC9

Hi there! I am sorry you are in so much pain. I did want to respond and let you know that I experience warm spots as well as cold spots. i have been told this is due to my nerves and from the sound of pain in your toes it sounRAB like you may be experiencing nerve pain as well.

If you have not already, you might want to follow up with your family doctor / spinal surgeon to get down to the bottom of your pain.

Good luck and happy new year!

Thank you, I wasn't even sure that was a possibility.

The sensation is hard to peg. It almost feels half way like stinging/burning sensation and part like coldness. If I put them in front of a heater or heat source, it doesn't seem to help that much.

I am going to lose some weight and see if that helps. I just had a back x-ray and they said that all looked normal, which is odd seeing as how I was told that I had spina bifida occulta earlier in life.

I may need an MRI.

Thanks,

I had pain and nurabness in my left leg prior to my l5 S1 fusion in 2002. No problems on my right side.
After the surgery my right foot was cold. It is still cold from time to time. If my wife grabs both feet, she can feel the difference in temperature of the two feet. The surgeon has no explanation. I have just lived with it. I do notice more coldness in the foot when the weather is cold. I have been lucky enough to spend the last few winters in Arizona, which really helps.

I haven't experienced the cold feeling you describe, but I am sure it has something to do with your back. My toes go nurab all the time from my back issues. I have spondylolisthesis of L5 on S1, disc disease with an annular tear and bulge at L4-L5, and a disc herniation with loss of disc height at L5-S1.
I also wanted to add something regarding your x-ray. An x-ray won't be the best test for showing problems with your discs. The first test I had done was an x-ray, and that is when I was diagnosed with spondy. Soon after I had an MRI and then later a CT scan, and those tests showed the disc issues. You should have an MRI. I'll bet you herniated a disc or something when you got out of the shower.

Thanks guys and gals.

I failed to mention that for the last year or two, I have had a nurab area that is oval shaped that runs from the outside of my left leg from my knee to about mid thigh.

It seems to be better a little bit now that I am walking daily (about 4 miles)

I will see the doc, I am just glad to hear back could be the cause. I was getting afraid it was my heart.
