How I wish
I could be meek
and rid myself
willingly
of the curving, threading,
choking vines
of ego.
I wish
I could sit contentedly
in the shadows
of a great and lofty mountain
and be content
to be a valley.
I would, quite willingly
live in the shadow
of its tall, gray
stone peaks
and live humbly
among my fields, both
fertile and fallow,
and go about
tending them and forgetting
myself,
and in doing so
find contentedness
