A McClaren F-1 is probably out of reach, so if you want to get something flashy, check ebay. Seriously. I just bought a fairly new Caddy on there for under $11k. It's not tricked out or anything...no need. I can save my money because it's already fully-loaded.
If that's too reserved, there are always classics up for grabs.
My opinion if you're looking to mod something, is that nothing is sweeter looking than a decked out and modernized vintage car from the 1930s through 1960s. Solid steel, room under the hood, back seat, and trunk etc, etc. Pick from fancy curves or fins.
Everyone's modding imports, and they all look the same, and are cheaply made that will never give you a return on your investment. A classic car is a tank that will last.
