I'm 16 years old, and i have a 14 year old brother, and a 9 year old brother.
My dad's in china right now, and he sent me 300$ via email. In the email he told me to give 100$ to each of my brothers for a little bit of spending money.
My 14 year old brother is being a very impatient dickhead and he demands that i give him the money now, as it has been a day since my dad sent the money.
The argument i'm having with my 14 year old brother is whether or not I am in debt 100$ to him, just because my dad told me to give him money. He says that I'm OBLIGATED to do it, therefore i HAVE to do it.
I have every intention of giving him the money, but I also have exams coming up soon, and i have no time to walk to the bank. My arguments are that the money was given to me, and an order from my dad was given to me. whether i fulfil that order or disobey it and face the consequences are up to me.
This transaction shouldn't even have to concern him, if i did what my dad told me, then one day 100$ should magically appear in his bank account, and he would be wondering how it got there.
The money is mine until i give it to him, i showed him the receipt from the transaction. Just because someone or THE LAW tells you to do something doesn't mean you have to do it, men have always had the free will to disobey the law and face the consequences.
If I wanted to i could spend the money, and wait for my dad to get home and yell at me. plus my dad did not specify when i had to complete his order by, so ill do it as soon as possible, when i have the time.
What do you guys think about this? Do i owe him money personally? or is the money mine until i decide to do what my dad tells me? not that it would matter, but am i legally obligated to give him the money when he asks? and DON'T give me this crap about not being 18 therefore everything i own belongs to my parents
