herring, sardines and cholesterol

High Roller

I believe I've read that sardines and herring are good for lowering cholesterol yet the label on the can says they contain a lot of cholesterol. How is it that something high in cholesterol can be good for lowering cholesterol. I'm confused!

Most people's blood cholesterol levels are affected little by dietary cholesterol (although some people are affected greatly in this way).

Sardines' fat is mostly unsaturated, which is generally considered to be helpful in lowering blood LDL cholesterol levels.
