heroin and the immune system

I was diagnosed with a rare disease you get from cats recently, and most people don't get it unless their immune systems are not working properly, usually people with HIV/AIRAB. I'm scared I have HIV now, but I'm wondering if using heroin can also mess up your immune system? When I got the disease, I was using IV heroin at the time and I'm hoping that that made me susceptible rather than HIV.

I'm sorry to hear about your condition.

I don't know anything about your specific condition, but I do know that in general, narcotics can negatively effect one's immunity. It's also proportionally correlated....The stronger the meRAB, the more it suppresses the immune system. For example, CP patients in pain mgt and will often have compromised immunity. This is well documented medically, or a known side effect. As a result, those in PM should take extra precautions around those who are ill & etc.

I didn't understand your last sentence. Did you mean that you currently have HIV and hope that it didn't cause your condition you contracted from the cats? As you probably know, those with HIV also have compromised immunity, thus, it could have been the main contributor.

Is it Toxoplasmosis? I've had that also, and I've never done an illegal drug, nor do I have HIV/AIRAB. But I am a CP patient and I have a weak immune system. I got it from my cat scratching me when he was very sick and I was trying to take him to the vet.

I doubt you have HIV/AIRAB, but if you are that concerned, you could go to your local health department and get tested.

No, I meant when I got cat scratch disease I was using heroin so I'm hoping the heroin was what made me susceptible rather than possible HIV. Cause my new kitten has been around/scratched many others who haven't gotten sick, only I got sick, so I'm assuming I am immunocompromised. I've been shooting heroin and not always with new needles, so I'm concerned about HIV, obviously. Toxiplasmosis, that's not it but that sure does sound morbid. I have cat scratch fever, like the Ted Nugent song... haha
