Whats a chair times two?
Whats a chair times three?
Whats a chair squared?

Why doesnt squared work in the real world? What does it mean to be times'd by itself.

Two chairs and three chairs.

But squared does work in the real world, in certain contexts. It does not work with a chair because it is three-dimensional. But if you have, say, a line of six chairs, and you square the line, you now have a square of chairs, 6x6.

Maybe you haven't looked closely enough?

Perhaps it's

1 (chair) x 2 = 2 (chairs)

1 (chair) ^ 2 = 1 (chair)

In other words, you aren't multiplying chair times 2, but actually, 1 chair times 2... hope this is making some sense!?
