I'm a member of a small arts group in the Midwest on the edge of Appalachia. The Group is only about 5-10 years old, but has grown fairly well considering the size of our area. Some of us now would like to encourage music through the group, especially helping people to learn and find places to perform and to support them when they do. We already have a number of people in the community that perform live, but have to travel several miles to play. The biggest challenge right now is most of the rest of the membership of our group is not receptive to the idea. They're all older, especially the most active members (60's +), and I think that that they are afraid It'll take away from what they are trying to do.
So first, how can we bring them along slowly and respectfully to the idea that this can only help the group?
Second, once we can start moving forward what are some good ways to bring more music to the city? Anybody that has any experience with small arts groups that deal with music, I would love to hear from you. Thank you all
