I am taking a statistics course, and we have our first major assignment – to write a paper on a provided set of data. Our professor gave us a dataset of 121 mutual funds with the following data for each fund:
Category (small cap, large cap, etc)
Objective (value or growth)
Assets
Fees (yes/no)
Expense Ratio
Return 2003
3 year Return
5 year Return
Risk (high, average, low)
Best Quarter
Worst Quarter
I work in healthcare and know NOTHING about mutual funds. I’ve got a decent handle on the material I’ve been learning in class, but I’m stumped as to where to even start to analyze this data! Looking for a few suggestions on how some of these things relate to each other and some statistics I can use to compare the mutual funds. This class is being taken at the Master's Degree level so I'd need that level of help. This is not an undergrad or high school class!
