Help!! Worried my dad has prostate cancer!

This might sound odd but when waiting to use the toilet after somebody in my house you can hear them in there. For the past few days my dad has said he is peeing a little more than usual, and today and yesterday I actually noticed when waiting to use the bathroom that when he was peeing he wasn't peeing continuously but was straining to get it all out, so the flow was stopping and starting.

I haven't spoken to him about it yet, I was wondering what are the most common causes of this problem? I saw that there was no blood in the urine when I went to pee myself.

He is 58 years old, white, non-smoker, no family history of prostate cancer - but is this a possibility?

Hello Yixian,

It's nice your dad has a caring daughter like yourself who has
concerns about some of his symptoms.

With many men enlarged prostates are common and have a
variety of symptoms. Such as urinating/peeing can be more
difficult if their urethas are narrowed.

Has you dad expressed any symptoms of burning when he
needs to pee? I know you have not talked to your dad yet
but when you do maybe just ask some basic questions etc.

Your dad might be interested in seeing a doctor in the future
to rule out urinary bladder infections and some other things.

Let us know how things go,

Welcome to the boards,

Hi Janaly, thanks for the reply! No i didn't sound painful and he is the sort of person who if it was painful definitely would have told someone, and as I went to the toilet right after I could see it was not bloody/dark/cloudy.

Is there any reason to be worried by urinary hesitancy on it's own? In a 58 year old?
