help with starter maybe? lexus es 300 problem?

- 2000 Lexus es300... ~99,000 mi
- when i parked recently, i turned the key to "off" and pulled it out, and the car sounds as though it is trying to turn over... (just like when you try and start a car that won't start...)
- when i insert the key, i turn it over to "on" (not "start"), and it starts right up
- multiple times i removed the key, inserted, started, etc for about 10 minutes it would not stop trying to turn over... it eventually stopped

also, this may be unrelated or it may not be, for the last week or so my e-brake light has been randomly coming on and staying on for periods of time (and no, its not when i actually have my e-brake on)

If anyone knows what is going on and would like to help me out, I would greatly appreciate it... just want to know whats going on with my car and how much its going to cost me to get fixed, or if i need to take it to the shop immediately

Sounds like a stuck starter solenoid. Could be a bad ignition switch, too. I'd disconnect the small lead from the starter while this is happening. If it still cranks you need a new starter. If not, then the problem is further upstream at the switch or maybe a shorted wire.

As far as the e-brake light, no it's not related. On those cars, the low brake fluid level warning trips the brake warning light. Check your brake fluid level. If it's low you probably need brakes. As the brake pads wear, the caliper pistons move further out of their bores and more fluid is used to keep the bores full. Topping it off is okay, but remove the excess before you push the pistons back in to replace the pads or you'll have a huge mess when you overflow the reservoir.
