Help with spanish commands?

So I have my spanish final tommorow and i'm a little confused on commands.
My book says most of the commands are expressed in the subjuntive (i get that part)
but then it says the affirmative tu command is the same as the Ud. form of the present indicative.

So how do you know when to use the commands conjugated in the subjuntive verses the affirmative tu command?
