Help with my t-mobile contract?

My t-mobile contract is in the name of a minor but billed to someone who is of age. If the customer is a minor, can I cancel the contract without any penalty? I heard that you could. T-mobile has terrible reception and phones, and I am completely dissatisfied with customer service.
I have a Samsung Gravity T. This is the third t-mobile phone I've had that I have been dissatisfied with as it constantly freezes and turns itself off; this phone, as well as my other phones, often does not receive calls and/or texts, even when I'm in good coverage areas (which is rare, because I have very little coverage at my house). My area has only moderate coverage and I am ALWAYS unable to place calls indoors with very little reception outside, either. Customer service can be difficult to deal with, no matter what they are called for and, after this series of experiences with t-mobile, I would much prefer a different wireless network.
