hi. recently my betta fish had that white velvet disease, so we gave him the medicine for a couple weeks and he was fine. this was back in summer, we had the air con on and it was cool in the house.

now its winter and we have the heating on high. my fish lays at the top of the bowl like he's dead, but moves his fins and if i tap the bowl he wriggles like hes trying to get upright. theyre in my bedroom and when im in bed i can hear him thrashing around the bowl trying to get upright.

i feed them a mixture of live food (wrigglers which he loves to chase around the bowl but i didnt notice that his belly got really swollen when he ate these) and dry packaged betta food which he doesnt like so much. he doesnt seem to be eating much now.

he also has white cottonball like things on his sides where his body and eye sticks up out of the water when hes floating there.

ALSO i have another betta fish who had the same initial problems and cleared up fine after the medicine like this one, but hes now fine. theyre kept in exactly the same conditions. but i am noticing hes slowly starting to struggle to stay upright after hes eating (gets a bit of a swollen belly too after the wrigglers).

PLEASE HELP!!! i dont want him - or them- to die. i only got them about 2 months ago so theyre not old. :(
could it be the food, temperature, or just sick?
